International Spy Museum

With the recent release of Breach, Robert Hanssen is once again in the public eye and the topic of much discussion. The Hanssen case has been called the the worst intelligence disaster in US history. However, while a great deal is known concerning Hanssen spying activities over the twenty two years that he gave classified documents to the USSR and later Russia, the reason behind his betrayal is still shrouded in a great deal of mystery and controversy. Helping to give answers to the daunting task of ‘why,’ The International Spy museum in DC on November 28, 2007 will open a new exibit on Hanssen. This new exibit is from the unique perspective of his friend and longtime collegue David G. Major, who for 14 years worked with Hanssen at FBI headquarters in Washington DC. A privately owned museum, The International Spy Museum is dedicated to the field of espionage. Located in the Penn Quarter neighborhood of Washington, D.C., and about one block west of the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station, the museum covers espionioge techniques from the Greek and Roman empires right up to the cold war and today.

Travel Tips

Travel Auction

By now you’ve probably used an online booking site like Expedia or Travelocity. These sites are easy to use and often offer great deals on travel packages, hotels, car rentals, and flights. But, there is an even more fun and easy way to book your travels online! Consider participating in a travel auction! Online travel auction sites allow users to bid on a variety of travel deals and may offer greater savings than other online travel sites. Just like any other auction site, users search for and then bid on specific “items” during the bidding period, when the bidding period ends the user with the highest bid wins the item. Typically, travel details are entered after a winner is chosen.

Here are some helpful tips for using a travel auction site:

· Be patient. Travel auction sites are getting very popular and some people are bidding way over cost but deals can still be found if you are patient.

· Read all the fine print, as there may be taxes and fees that can increase the price. Sometimes the increase can be quite significant so you should consider the total cost (after tax and fees) when bidding for an item.

· Be flexible. Travel auctions are not ideal for travelers that require traveling on specific dates. Sometimes you may purchase the item and then chose dates at a later date.

· It may be helpful to know on average what the cost would be through a travel agent or other site. If the bids get too high, it may be easier to go elsewhere.

· See if there are any auction alert systems available on the site. Use this function to track your auctions. If available, it may be beneficial to see how items have been selling in the past. This can help you establish a maximum bidding price.

Sometimes booking travel and planning may be boring and tedious but with travel auctions, you can have fun while getting a great deal. To get started check out skyauctions.com!

Drift

Drift owners, Bryan Chittenden and Greg Donnally had an idea to contemporize the traditional tiki bar concept for the new generation…contemporary music and design with traditional Polynesian food and exotic tiki drinks. There was nothing else like it in the market!

Drift is unique in that it is the only casual Polynesian style tiki restaurant and bar in the Valley. Reasonable prices make it very affordable and the atmosphere makes it very comfortable and relaxing as if on vacation. The drinks, all unique exotic concoctions, will make you believe you are in a tropical paradise.

Washington Travel

Seattle, Washington is a beautiful coastal port city set scenically between Puget Sound and Lake Washington. The city’s chief harbor, Elliott Bay, the man-made Harbor Island, and the nearby Olympic Mountains provide for a panoramic waterfront and practically year-round sailing, skiing, camping, hiking, and bicycling. The Space Needle is Seattle’s famed landmark and has been featured in popular shows like Frasier and Grey’s Anatomy. The Seattle Center, the host of cultural events like Bubmbershoot, Folklife, and the Bite of Seattle, is actually the reconstructed fairgrounds surrounding the Needle, and the Seattle Center Monorail make these unique events easy to access. Known as “Emerald City” for its lush evergreen trees and as the “Rainy City” for its continually overcast weather, Seattle forms the central hub of the Seattle metropolitan area. Seattle mayor Greg Nickels refers to his home as a city of neighborhoods, which are often host to street fairs, live entertainment, and weekly farmers’ markets. Pike Place Market is one of the most well-known of these destination points for both tourists and locals alike. Seattle doesn’t stop there—the Fremont Troll, the Experience Music Project, and the Seattle Central Library are all representative of the city’s memorable flare. Poetry-friendly club venues, open mics, and grunge music make the Seattle arts scene a staple of the city. Famous artists like Nirvana and Pearl Jam are just two of the many that have been produced by the Seattle mix. Sports enthusiasts have a variety of games to choose from with the Seattle SuperSonics, NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, the MLB’s Seattle Mariners, and the WNBA champions Seattle Storm. At the same time, Seattle has been considered the most literate of the country; the University of Washington and Seattle University are two of the most respected education facilities. Serious students need serious coffee, and that is why Seattle is the foundation of Starbucks, Seattle’s Best Coffee, and Tully’s. Discover the treasure of the Emerald City where Seattle, Washington holds the perfect balance of beauty, business, and pleasure.

Washington is a beautiful state that sports an amazing coastline, green valleys, rolling hills, and mountains galore. It shares a border with a foreign country, our friendly, northern neighbor, Canada. And it has plenty of diversity: a thriving cultural and artistic element, vibrant music scenes, plenty of outdoor recreation, specialty shopping, mouth-watering cuisine, and of course, plenty of coffee shops. It’s also home to one of the most interesting and intellectual cities in the Unites States, Seattle. Many describe it as big city living with a small city’s pace and friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Here you’ll find the famous space needle, the original Starbuck’s, and the original home to grunge music, as well as many up-and-coming bands. Not far from Seattle, on the other side of picturesque Lake Washington, is Bellevue, an exciting, growing city that boasts one of the largest shopping centers in the region, Bellevue Square. Here you’ll find tantalizing restaurants and upscale shops with new additions like “The Lodge,” One Lincoln Tower, and the Bravern. Another popular spot is the Rosalie Whyel Museum of Doll Art, which houses over a thousand dolls. And for kids, the new KidsQuest Children’s Museum, contains 10,000 square feet of play space. Other attractions include the famous Washington and Evergreen Point floating bridges. Recreational opportunities include walks on its sandy beaches or a visit to one of its over 120 state parks, hiking, camping, boating or windsurfing in Puget Sound, and snow-based sports, or simply taking in the beauty of Columbia River Gorge.
